Vancouver City

Wow! Is all I can say. What an amazing city, Vancouver is beautiful. Like clockwork the hustle and bustle just seemed to flow so smoothly, daily commuters rushing off the ferry to enter the cities heart. I stood back and watched like a fly on a wall, snapping away to my hearts content. A great spot for street photography.

Granville Street

I spent my first morning organising all the essentials, bank account, mobile phone, insurance and gear. Time for lunch so I decided to quickly stop in at a street hot dog stand, the food here is delicious. As I sat down to eat and was half way through my hot dog, a lady pops up beside me and exclaimed "If you can't finish that I will" and I couldn't help but feel I was about to get robbed, but to my relief, she smiled as I glanced up and quickly replied "Nah I'm hungry hey". I asked about her, why she was here, and an interesting conversation erupted. She seemed homeless although I didn't enquire and was selling her art on the street. Nothing impressive, in my opinion, but each to their own. I purchased one of her pieces as a gesture of support, $5.

Street Artist

I soon realised I must have stuck out in this hustle and bustle as I looked around in amazement at every street corner, the architecture, the flow of it all & the people. I had many more interactions that day with people asking for money but I couldn't oblige, after all I am travelling.

And so the rest of the adventure began, I had to get ready for my first white Christmas. I made my way through Granville street down towards Granville Island and on to Kitsilano, the ski store hub of Vancity. I took the seaside walk along the bay and it was well worth the few hours. Strolling through gardens and the bay side was a refreshing experience and reminder of my home, the Gold Coast.

After a few hours of shopping through 4th Ave. I was exhausted but extremely excited as I anticipated hitting that oh so fresh powder when the mountain finally opened. Off to bed for me...
